What is the difference between hairdressers and hairstylists?

There are a lot of beauty terms and definitions, and some of them might make you scratch your head. When we look around and see other professionals making the same mistakes, we can’t point the finger at you. We are here to assist you in expanding your horizons of knowledge. In this lesson, you will learn the distinctions between a hairdresser and a hairstylist. We are well aware that your initial reaction may be something along the lines of, “Wait, isn’t that the exact same thing?” Even people who work in the industry have trouble with it, so there’s no reason to feel ashamed about it. We can’t reasonably expect you to be able to distinguish between the two if there aren’t even any hair salons that are aware of the difference.

Although the terms are frequently used interchangeably, hairdressers and hairstylists DO NOT belong to the same occupational category. Hairdressers and hairstylists are two distinct but related professions. Even though they both work with hair in some capacity, this does not mean that they are qualified for the same job. Every one of them has received a unique professional education. In addition to this, they perform various types of work and make use of a variety of tools. It’s possible for someone to be good at cutting hair, but that doesn’t mean they automatically have the ability to create lovely styles. It is not a problem; once you have finished reading, you will be able to see the difference.

Hairdressers

Hairdressers can be responsible for cutting and styling hair. This includes hair cutting, styling, shampooing, and chemical treatments. This is the right person to consult if you want to change your appearance for the long-term. Some jurisdictions require that hairdressers have a license in cosmetology. This can take up to one to two years.

They must have certificates and training in their chosen field, as well as certifications on how to use the equipment and products. This is the minimum requirement. They are often found in beauty salons like Corrie Elle Artistry because they need a lot of tools and products that are hard to transport.

HairStylists

Hairstylists do the same thing as their job title: they style your hair. Knowing how to style hair is about understanding its structure and changing its appearance by creating curls, waves and volume. You don’t have to cut or process your hair. This is the place to go if you need a hairstyle for a wedding or prom, or fancy waves for professional events.

Hairstylist don’t need a license to work because they aren’t making permanent changes to your hair. The hairdresser will style your hair in a way that gives the illusion of permanent changes. However, at the end of each day, you can remove any temporary changes with shampoo. They are most often found at weddings where they can move quickly between clients and create stunning hairstyles.

Although every hairdresser is capable of cutting hair, it is not the truth. However, one person can receive professional training in both cutting and styling hair. These careers require years of experience and creativity, as well as hard work.
